History: wiki style.

Personality:
When we first encounter Kid, if you decide not to take up her offer of joining forces— she is clearly unimpressed that you would refuse the company of a "lonely, vulnerable, sweet little girl." Of course, a description like that couldn't be further from the truth...

Gritty, resourceful and tough— Kid tops off this list of desirable traits with over-confidence, as well. She is willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants, taking down whatever or whoever stands in her way, dirty tricks included. She has absolutely no shame in twisting the truth, the words of others, or even taking hostages in order to attain a certain goal; though she isn't entirely immoral. Contrary to this front that she puts up, however, belies a girl who isn't entirely selfish— and even puts herself in harm's way to save someone (her own hostage!) in the path of a thrown knife.

She is brutally honest, and says exactly what's on her mind even to the point of it being rude. She tends to lack the ability to self-censor, though it's not so much a display of disrespect as it is staying true to herself. She doesn't sugar-coat or give any breaks if its news that might be hard to take, because she knows the harsh realities the worlds have to offer. It toughens you up, builds character to be able to deal with these things head on. Or so, she most likely believes.

A bit of a wild spirit, Kid is loud, adventurous— and impatient. She would likely find it hard to sit still for extended periods of time. You wouldn't want her to be the one to explain a delicate situation or the intricate details, she has no time for those sorts of things— actions are what get the job done, not words. She certainly doesn't believe in standing around and letting FATE control your future, and in fact, says just that to the local fortune teller who attempts to warn her about her current path. She states without hesitation that she doesn't believe in that sort of thing and that she "makes way for her own future by [her]self."

Her sense of humour seems to manifest best in the form of teasing, finding a particular delight in it when Serge is her target. If he happens to encounter Kid in the town of Termina leading Leena (a local from Arni Village) along with him, she remarks that she "doesn't want to get in the way of his date" with "that sheila" and that she'll wait until he's done (which she doesn't anyway, and joins a short while later).

One of Kid's greatest motivators is her pride. When she is struck with illness thanks to being poisoned, she denies any sort of problem until the point she's falling literally unconscious, saying how some weak attack like that wouldn't be enough to take her down. When she's eventually given the cure, and is still supposed to be on bed rest, her stubbornness takes over and she even walks around the village in her "sissy nightgown" as the doctor hid her clothes to stop her from leaving... Obviously, she believes that she knows what's best for her, and is especially hard-headed when it comes to being told what to do, no matter who is doing the telling.

Kid makes fast friends with Serge at least as far as surface value is concerned— perhaps because of what he has to offer her, or what she can attain by simply associating with him. This is most likely the nature of their relationship to start out with (though you could probably add in a dash of mysterious feelings somewhere, too) but of course, their bond grows into something much deeper over the span of the story. While Kid seems to have little to no respect for secrets and mysteries, she certainly seems to have her fair share. It definitely takes a little longer until she finally opens up, and begins revealing more about herself.

Beyond this rough and tumble exterior, it's easy to guess that Kid has actually lived a rather harsh life to shape her into the radical thief she is. Having been on her own since the horrible events of her past™ she has actually become rather jaded to the ways of the world. She believes that "nice guys finish last." And explains that the idea of guardian angels watching over [them] is "a load of rubbish." The lessons that she has learned over the years have truly led her to believe that "the underhanded always get the last laugh."

Samples:
More than a memory, this was something Kid would never be able to forget. The way the flames roared around her, the choking heat, the heavy black smoke in the air— the Ashtear household was once again engulfed in flames. The drawings that she and the other kids had worked on so meticulously... turning to ash, being swept away with what had been bright sunny days, filled with laughter.

In one of the back rooms, she was huddled into herself, feeling every bit a child again as the boards cracked and crumbled in the all-consuming flames. When she looked up, she knew what she'd find, knew she'd see the demi-human Lynx and his clown-faced partner standing there smugly, smiling even!— as the smell of her charred life filled her nostrils. But Kid couldn't help herself, she couldn't just lay there helplessly doing nothing. Sis, she had to avenge Sis! With one last push, she willed herself back up to her feet again, a gutteral, feral— "Uwah—!" that sounded from her throat as she moved to spring forward... caught by a sudden pull at her wrist.

She didn't even turn your way though, as she twists and tugs, trying to break free from the sudden grasp, "Lemme go!" she spat, "Let me go!"

And overhead, the roof supports began to crumble.

Kid becomes encased in the remains of what had once been Lavos. Weakened after its defeat, the two have merged into one single entity to be able to survive within the Darkness Beyond Time. The Time Devourer has a will of its own, and Kid is no longer in control of the entity she has become; this status lasts for two turns. Once the Melody ends, she will remain disoriented for at least one turn thereafter.
